Assertiveness 101: Tips for Practicing Assertiveness in Daily Life

Practicing assertiveness involves being able to express your needs, wants, and opinions in a clear and direct manner, while also respecting the needs and boundaries of others. Here are some tips for practicing assertiveness:
    1. Use “I” statements: When expressing your needs or concerns, use “I” statements to convey how you feel. For example, “I feel frustrated when you interrupt me during meetings.”
    2. Be clear and concise: When expressing your needs or opinions, be clear and concise to avoid confusion or misunderstandings.
    3. Respect others’ boundaries: While it’s important to express your own needs, it’s also important to respect the needs and boundaries of others. Listen to others’ perspectives and try to find a mutually beneficial solution.
    4. Practice active listening: When communicating with others, practice active listening by paraphrasing what the other person said to ensure you understand their point of view.
    5. Use body language: Your body language can convey confidence and assertiveness. Stand up straight, make eye contact, and use a clear and confident tone of voice.
  1. Practice saying “no”: Saying “no” can be difficult for some people, but it’s an important part of practicing assertiveness. Practice saying “no” in a clear and respectful manner.
Remember that practicing assertiveness takes time and effort, and it’s normal to experience some discomfort or anxiety when first starting out. But with practice, you can develop greater confidence and assertiveness in your interactions with others. FITNESS INSPIRATION OF THE DAY – JOSH
